Each October, the National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center (NIWRC) joins advocates and organizations nationwide to launch Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM), a time to honor those we have lost to domestic violence, uplift the resilience of survivors, and strengthen our collective commitment to ending violence. Embracing the theme "With Survivors, Always," first introduced by the National Resource Center on Domestic Violence (NRCDV), NIWRC stands in solidarity with survivors and is dedicated to fostering healing within Tribal communities. This theme allows us to explore what it means to be in partnership with survivors toward sovereignty, safety, and support. It is both a love letter and a call to action for those committed to advocating for survivors’ needs and rights. Together, let us speak the truth that violence is not traditional.
Join the National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center for virtual office hours to develop testimony for the 20th Annual Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) Government-to-Government Violence Against Women Tribal Consultation. These collaborative sessions will help Tribal leaders and designated representatives craft impactful testimony that reflects their communities' needs, priorities, and concerns regarding violence against American Indian and Alaska Native women. Participants may ask questions and access resources.
Use your voice to help guide our advocacy, strengthen programs, and uplift survivors. We’re inviting Tribal leaders, Tribal domestic violence victim services advocates, and American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) victim-survivors to share their stories through written narratives, capturing lessons learned, challenges faced, successes achieved, and lived experiences. By sharing your experiences, you help ensure that future policy and resources reflect the realities of Native communities. These collective narratives will serve as a foundation for shaping meaningful recommendations, identifying resource needs, and supporting the development and sustainability of Tribal domestic violence programs. Submissions can be anonymous, and no identifying information will be shared.
