Human trafficking and stalking are criminal acts; they are also profound violations of human rights and dignity, often leaving deep, enduring impacts on survivors and their families. As relatives, we understand the importance of community strength, respect for every individual's autonomy, and the sacredness of women. Let's unite in our efforts to raise awareness, educate our communities and ourselves, and advocate for stronger protective measures. We encourage everyone to learn about the signs of human trafficking and stalking, to listen and give voice to survivors, and to share resources and support. Check back on our social media @niwrc throughout January for definitions, data, updated resources, and virtual events across Indian Country.
This webinar will explore how the crimes of sex trafficking and stalking intersect in Indigenous communities. Stalking should not be minimized due to its likelihood of being a precursor of sex trafficking and MMIP. During this panel discussion, the audience will be better able to:
Identify stalking and sex trafficking.
Recognize the intersections between stalking and sex trafficking.
Understand why stalking and sex trafficking are misunderstood and unrecognized in Indigenous communities.
Strengthen advocacy and criminal justice response.
Enhance responses connecting survivors to services, safety planning, and culturally relevant resources.
Practice Informed Policy Recommendations Based on Work with Our Unhoused Relatives
