NIWRC Resources for Tribal Consultation

Tribal Consultation is vital to strengthening the Nation-to-Nation relationship between Tribal Nations and the United States by ensuring meaningful dialogue and Tribal input in decision-making. The National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center developed these resources to help support Tribal Nations and representatives throughout the Tribal Consultation process. Both the HHS Administration for Children and Families (ACF) Annual Tribal Consultation and the 21st Annual Government-to-Government Violence Against Women Tribal Consultation have important deadlines to submit written testimony.

HHS Administration for Children and Families (ACF) Annual Tribal Consultation. Written testimony is due Friday, September 25, 2026, by 5:00 p.m. ET. Written comments and testimony should be submitted to Alex Adams, Assistant Secretary, at tribalaffairs@acf.hhs.gov with the subject line “ACF Tribal Consultation Testimony.”

21st Annual Government-to-Government Violence Against Women Tribal Consultation (Wednesday - Friday, September 9-11, 2026, in Tulalip, Washington) Written testimony is due by Monday, October 12, 2026. Safe Housing: A Native Woman’s Journey and Vision

Wednesday, September 9 at 1:00 p.m. MT

The Tribal Safe Housing Center, a project of NIWRC, is hosting a conversation with educator and activist Renee Sans Souci as she discusses her path toward healing and perspectives on the unique connection between Native women and home. During this webinar, Renee will share insights from her experiences and her vision for creating safe spaces rooted in cultural connections, traditional teachings, and spirituality from which she and her family have found great strength and support.

Bathing Bundles

Bathing Bundles are designed to support healing and shelter programs for Native women and relatives across Indian Country! Each Bathing Bundle includes thoughtfully prepared items with cedarwood, lavender, lemongrass, and sage—plants traditionally valued for grounding, cleansing, and protection. Preference is given to Tribal shelters and programs. These bundles are offered at no cost and are available while supplies last.
